Short version: nothing optional runs until you say so. Analytics and marketing scripts are not loaded at all on a first visit — not loaded and switched off, but genuinely not loaded — because loading them is what sets their cookies.

1. What a cookie is

A small text file a website asks your browser to keep. Some are essential plumbing — they remember that you are signed in, or that you already answered this banner. Others watch what you do so somebody can count it. We treat those two things very differently.

2. The three categories

Strictly necessary Always on

Sign-in, this cookie choice, and protection against forged form submissions. The site cannot work without these.

Analytics Off by default

Which pages people use, so we can improve them. Nothing here identifies you personally.

Marketing Off by default

Whether our campaigns reach the right people. Off unless you turn it on.

Strictly necessary cookies cannot be switched off, because the site cannot work without them — so we show that toggle disabled rather than ticked and changeable, which would misrepresent the position. Everything else starts off.

3. Every cookie we set

This is the complete list. If it is not here, we do not set it.

Cookies used on this site
Name Category Purpose Lasts Set by
yc_session Strictly necessary Maintains your signed-in session in the content management system. Until you close the browser Youth's Corner
yc_consent Strictly necessary Records the cookie choice you made and the policy version it applied to. 180 days Youth's Corner
_ga / _ga_* Analytics Distinguishes visitors so we can count page views without identifying you. Up to 24 months Google Analytics

4. Changing your mind

Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, which is the standard the law sets. Use either button below — the first reopens the banner so you can adjust each category, the second refuses everything optional immediately.

Refusing does not only stop future collection — it actively deletes the analytics cookies already on this device.

5. Turning them off in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, independently of anything we do. Look for "Privacy", "Cookies and site data" or "Site settings" in Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge.

Be aware that blocking all cookies will break the parts of this site that need them, and that clearing them removes the record of your cookie choice — so the banner will ask again.

6. What we record about your choice

When you answer the banner we keep a record, because both the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2019 require us to be able to demonstrate that consent was actually given. That record contains:

  • the date and time you answered;
  • which categories you allowed;
  • the version of this policy you were shown;
  • your IP address truncated — the last part is discarded, so 197.232.14.87 is stored as 197.232.14.0. Enough to evidence the consent, not enough to identify you.

These records are kept for 24 months. See the Privacy Policy for how to ask for a copy or have it deleted.
